2023 40 Under 40 Class Includes Three from Aalberts surface technologies

LIVONIA, MI September 11, 2023 – Heat Treat Today magazine announced today that Angella Sell, Connor Montgomery, and Chris Pietszak of Aalberts surface technologies are members of their 40 Under 40 Class of 2023.

The Heat Treat Today 40 Under 40 award recognizes rising leaders in the heat treat community who are giving their time, talent, and education to make the industry a great place to work.

Angella Sell, Research & Development Engineer, is a proven leader, having chaired the ASM Detroit Chapter from June 2020 to June 2021. In 2022 Angella received the ASM Detroit Chapter President’s Award for her leadership role during the challenging pandemic years. Angella is the vice-chair of the AFS Cast Iron Research Committee and will assume the role of chair in May 2024. Within this group, she serves as a subject matter expert for heat treatment research. Angella specializes in programs related to austempered ductile iron. Part of our team since 2015, she manages the R&D laboratory in Livonia with a focus on working with clients on heat treatment research and development programs, many of which are materials conversion related.

Connor Montgomery, Oshkosh Plant Manager, understands the importance of building strong teams and supporting them for success. His focus on hiring and retention practices as well as his emphasis on effective communications has positively transformed the culture in his plant. Connor is leading major efforts to improve flow, efficiency, and throughput in the Oshkosh plant. He has introduced the use of modern lean tools such as 5S, FIFO, and Supermarkets to reduce unproductive manhours. He is actively involved in the reduction of additional waste within plant processing. Connor is a graduate from MTI’s YES Program and is currently working to earn his MBA. Under his leadership the Oshkosh plant realized dramatic increases in throughput, sales and customer satisfaction. Connor has been part of our team since 2015.

Chris Pietszak, Quality Manager, focuses on the implementation of and support of ISO, IATF, and Nadcap as well as CQI-9 compliance. He is a trained ISO and IATF auditor and an MTI YES Program graduate. Chris played an important role implementing the quality systems during the start-up of the Fort Smith facility. He leads major quality initiatives on the corporate level for Aalberts surface technologies and is currently working to align the quality system process for all HIP | braze | heat treatment plants in the US. Part of our team since 2016, Chris is making a significant contribution to the implementation and continuous improvement of quality systems in the commercial heat treatment industry.

AALBERTS SURFACE TECHNOLOGIES FORMS NEW

HIP | BRAZE | HEAT TREATMENT BUSINESS UNIT IN THE US

LIVONIA, MI, February 7, 2023. Aalberts surface technologies – specialized heat treatment US and Aalberts surface technologies – accurate brazing announce today that they have merged into a single business unit. The combined companies now operate as Aalberts surface technologies – HIP | braze | heat treatment.

Specialized Heat Treatment US was formed when Premier Thermal, Applied Process, and Ionic Technologies were rebranded as Aalberts surface technologies – specialized heat treatment US in 2022. Accurate Brazing was founded in 1989 in Goffstown, NH and has been part of the Aalberts family since 2006, rebranding as Aalberts surface technologies – accurate brazing in 2022.

The realignment includes the thirteen facilities operating as Specialized Heat Treatment US and the four facilities operating as Aalberts surface technologies – accurate brazing. With its seventeen diverse facilities, Aalberts surface technologies – HIP | braze | heat treatment is one of the largest providers of thermal processing and metal joining technologies in the US.

Steve Wyatt leads Aalberts surface technologies – HIP | braze | heat treatment as its President. Brent Davis, formerly President of Accurate Brazing, serves as a Director of Operations with responsibility for all facilities in CT, NH, and SC. Rebranding activities have started and will continue throughout 2023. Day to day plant operations will be largely unaffected.

Aalberts surface technologies Attends the AIAM Aerospace Industry Luncheon at Spirit Airlines

Aalberts surface technologies’s Director of Sales & Marketing, Sara McMurray, and Business Development Specialist, Jessica Parrish, attended the Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (AIAM) Aerospace Industry Luncheon at Spirit Airlines at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The group was able to walk through a brand-new Airbus A320neo that Spirit brought into service this week, tour the maintenance hangar, and listen to airline executives and industry experts discuss the history of the airline, Covid-19 impacts on the return of commercial flights, the rigorous requirements to maintain their fleet, and how they bring new planes into service.

1. Spirit’s fleet is the newest in the USA, averaging 5.5 years old.
2. Spirit employs a couple hundred Michiganders.
3. Many components on the Airbus A320neo were manufactured in Michigan.
4. Aalberts surface technologies has over 25 Prime aerospace approvals.
5. Since neither Sara nor Jessica possess a pilot’s license, this was the closest they could get to flying the plane.

Earth Day was celebrated around the world

On April 22nd, Earth Day was celebrated around the world. Every day is Earth Day at our Pleasant Prairie, WI plant where we make our NitroSteel® product, the green alternative to chrome plating!

A chrome plated part may be nice and shiny, but the process is not. Did you know chrome plating can contaminate the environment, which poses a threat to human and animal health?

Our NitroSteel® product is not only environmentally friendly, but also provides numerous other advantages compared to chrome, such as superior wear and corrosion resistance, better lubrication retention, and dent resistance. There is no surface pitting or flaking, unlike chrome, because our process is not a coating.

Aluminum Stamping

Do you stamp aluminum? Do you have distortion concerns? Have you tried air quench?

We offer precision air quench designed specifically for aluminum stamped components. The air quench process is best suited for 6000 series and 7000 series alloy components, as well as aluminum 319 alloy castings.

Why is air quench beneficial? Air quenching can help with distortion control and dimensional stability, improve mechanical properties, including tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation percentage. Air quenching reduces internal residual stresses, increases toughness, and provides more uniform quenching without a vapor layer.
